Dressing up for Meals!

 

This week we are looking at dressing up your salads and veggies. In the past few weeks several clients have asked me about salad dressing options. In your average supermarket, there are easily 50 salad dressing options and most have poor quality ingredients like soy oil, canola oil, sugar, MSG, preservatives and artificial flavors. The challenge comes when you are eating a healthy fresh salad and then adding these processed poor quality dressings. The fix for this is to make your own salad dressing. Here’s the simple formula: Step1. Oil like extra virgin olive oil, avocado oil, flax oil are all good choices as a base. Step 2. Acid like apple cider, balsamic, wine vinegar or lemon juice can be used in a 3:1 ratio, oil to acid. Step 3. Add flavor with: mustard, GF soy or coconut aminos, raw honey in small amounts, salt, pepper, garlic and herbs to taste. You can create a simple dressing in a couple of minutes and add healthy calories to your healthy salads.

Add salad dressing on top of steamed veggies as a quick way to “dress” them up and add flavor.

Simply Delicious: Holly’s Lemonette Dressing

Ingredients:

¼ cup fresh squeezed lemon juice

¾ cup oil (EVOO or you can substitute ¼ of Omega Twin, Flax Oil or UDO’s oil)

½ tsp (generous) organic ground mustard

½ tsp sea or Himalayan salt

½ tsp black pepper

2-4 cloves of garlic (this can be adjusted to desired amount)

Directions:

Put all ingredients in blender and mix well. Store is glass bottle in fridge.

Serve with salad or streamed veggies.
